Wolves takeover could be close, hints Kenny Jackett

Kenny Jackett has hinted a takeover of Wolves is close – and that talks are holding up plans to sign players.

The club's transfer dealings are being delayed as they 'wait and see' what happens with any potential takeover, Jackett told the Express & Star.

The boss intimated a potential takeover deal is at an advanced stage. Jackett said it seemed 'a lot of the information has come out' regarding the potential deal, which is thought to involve Chinese multi-billionaire Robin Li.

It came as reports suggested super agent Jorge Mendes was involved in the negotiations, which would potentially see Spanish boss Julen Lopetegui replace Jackett.

Mendes, agent of Jose Mourinho and Cristiano Ronaldo among many others, is thought to be working with fellow agent Carlos Bucero on brokering the huge deal.

Lopetegui is said to want former Derby County player and current Leicester City under-16 coach Inigo Idiakez as his assistant.

Jackett, when asked if he envisaged Wolves signing any players soon, said: "It doesn't seem it at the moment.

"It just seems as if we're waiting to see which direction it goes in at the top."

And on the takeover reports, he added: "There is a lot of speculation and it does seem as if a lot of the information has come out, not necessarily in this country, but around the world.

"A lot of information has come out about the potential takeover, a lot of information has come out about the changes that are potentially going to be made.

"Everyone inside the club has seen that and, similar to our supporters, are waiting to see if anything develops."

Wolves have signed only one player so far this summer – goalkeeper Andy Lonergan – despite pledging they wanted to do their business early.

With Jackett's job seemingly under threat, is he finding it hard to deal with the feverish speculation?

He said: "It's there, I understand it's there. It does seem as if everyone's waiting to see (what happens).

"I haven't (had any discussions or reassurances) other than it's business as usual. As and when the powers-that-be have something to announce, they will.

"I understand and have seen the many rumours and information that's come out, because there's been a considerable amount that's come out. I'm sure when the board of directors have something to say, or when it's ratified, they'll make the relevant announcement.

"We've all seen the speculation and I'm sure everybody internally (at the club) is talking about it, as are the supporters. For us, we have to get on with pre-season, make sure we get the base work and the groundwork done.

"We all know there have been discussions. How far along they are, and at what stage, or when they'll be completed, is hard to tell.

"There's a lot of information out there so we'll just have to wait and see."

Prospective new boss Lopetegui is reported to have turned down a host of jobs in Spain's La Liga in order to take the Wolves job, should any takeover be completed and ratified.

Ex-midfielder Idiakez is also said to be wanted by Nigel Pearson to rejoin his ex-club Derby.

Wolves in fact tried to buy the player in 2005 but saw two bids rejected by the Rams.
