But the Scot hasn't yet asked to leave the club - and Kenny Jackett has praised him for his professionalism.

McDonald, who signed a new three-year contract at Molineux last September, hasn't been seen in a Wolves shirt since being substituted at half time against Bristol City on March 8.

Speculation has been rife about his future, with Scottish giants Glasgow Rangers believed to be interested in signing the 27-year-old.

McDonald has even trained with the under-18 squad at Compton Park, proving just how far his stock has fallen.

Jackett said he will sit down with McDonald next week to thrash out his future with the club.

"For his overall situation we'll see next week," Jackett said.

"He's hasn't expressed a desire to leave. He understands there has to be some kind of summing up and that has been discussed as having been after the games have been completed.

"He's been professional and worked very hard in training.

"But he has been disappointed he hasn't been playing, which is understandable.

"He's been to see me (about why he's not in the team), we've had discussions."

And on whether McDonald will stay at the club, Jackett added: "It depends how the conversations go, how we shape our squad, what we have to spend and how we need to improve."
