Mike Williamson opens up on Wolves injury nightmare
Wolves' Mike Williamson says he 'can't over-emphasise' how frustrating his injury hell has been.
The centre-half has yet to feature for Kenny Jackett's team since making a £200,000 switch from Newcastle in January.
Williamson impressed during a five-game Molineux loan spell last November, prompting the permanent move two months later.
But he has been sidelined ever since, first with a hamstring injury and then with a tendon problem and the defender said he was working 'extremely hard every day' to get fit.
"I can't over-emphasise how frustrated I have been," he added.
"I just want the season finished as quickly as possible because it has been such a disappointing one for me.
"November was the highlight without a shadow of a doubt, coming here and playing and enjoying my football, and that was the main reason I wanted to come back.
"I have been in working extremely hard every day and am looking forward to pre-season and making sure that I am 100 per cent."
"Williamson has a fitness programme to get him through the summer and is hopeful of starting pre-season with the rest of the squad.
"Was it almost a relief when the decision was made to rule him out for the season?
"I suppose you can look at it as now having a longer period of time to treat the injury properly, gradually increase the load, and build up my overall strength and mobility," he said. "It's about making sure I don't break down again."
And when he returns to action the central defender is convinced Wolves have what it takes to mount a promotion charge next season.
He added: " I truly believe we have all the attributes that you need to be a successful club.
"We can mount a positive campaign to push for promotion next year.
"The lads have been extremely unlucky with injuries this season, and I think when you look through history the most successful teams have had the highest availability rates of players."
