David Edwards expressed his delight at returning to Wolves action and attributed his early comeback to staying off the Easter eggs – and some help from his wife.

The Welshman was initially sidelined for three months with a broken foot, but returned two weeks early to come off the bench at the end of Tuesday's 2-1 win over MK Dons.

Anyone who has followed Edwards' progress via his detailed and enlightening blog, which charted his recovery from injury, will know that diet and nutrition has played an important role in Edwards' return to fitness.

And he paid tribute to his wife Emma, as well as Wolves, for his brisk return to the first team, as well as a very strict diet.

"It's great to be back so early, I wasn't really expecting to be involved in the squad," Edwards told the Express & Star.

"I definitely wouldn't have come back this soon earlier in my career. The dedication and mental strength I've had to show, mainly with the nutrition side of things, keeping to a strict diet. has helped.

"It was tough over Easter – the kids has six or seven Easter eggs between them. I managed to stay strong!

"I did an awful lot of research to make sure I was putting the right things in my body and it seems to have paid off.

"That kind of thing does interest me. It's more my wife – she's a fitness enthusiast and she's studying a nutrition course at the moment and has helped me an awful lot, as have the club."

Edwards was made to wait for his cameo appearance, stripping off with 10 minutes to go and then being told to sat down by Kenny Jackett, before finally entering the fray in injury time to a big ovation from the travelling contingent.

"When I saw James Henry's crosses coming in I was dying to get on with about half an hour to go!" Edwards said. "I had to bide my time. I finally got on and I managed to get one touch!

"It was a really nice reception and it meant a lot. It's been nice to share the recovery with the fans who've been reading my blog. I've had so much support on social media. I helps spur you along and motivates you to get back."

Edwards is pleased to be back in Wolves action first and foremost, but also on his mind is this summer's European Championships.

With six Championship games to go, the 30-year-old knows he needs to prove his fitness if he's to earn a place in Chris Coleman's squad.

"To be back playing with six games to go is great and if I can get some more minutes along the way and force my way into the Wolves starting XI, that's my main aim," he said.

"And if I can play some games between now and the end of the season that'll hopefully stand me in good stead for the selection for the summer. It'll be tough to make the squad. I'm confident if I can stay fit I can hopefully be a good addition."
