David Edwards hopes to break Mick hoodoo

Midfielder David Edwards knows a thing or two about playing for a Mick McCarthy team – but the Welshman has yet to experience what it's like to beat one.

In three games against Wolves since McCarthy took charge at Portman Road, he is undefeated, with two wins a draw.

Edwards, who was an unused substitute for Wales during the international break, is keen to end that run.

And he is looking forward to playing at one of his favourite grounds in the Championship calendar.

The 29-year-old said: "I don't think we've beaten Ipswich since Mick has been in charge so it will be important for us to break that hoodoo and put on a good performance after what was a very mixed week before the international break.

"I do love playing there - it's a lovely, old-fashioned stadium where it's always a good playing surface as well.

"It's a ground I've generally always done well at and had good results – it was only last time I played there where we haven't come away with a positive result (al 2-1 defeat last season)."

"We're craving that consistency and if we want to be title challengers and be play-off challengers than we need to string a set of good results together.

"Hopefully that will start against Ipswich but it will be a tough game because going there, you know what you're going to get."

It's likely to be a physical challenge against McCarthy's Tractor Boys.

But that's a challenge Edwards, who is Wolves' second-highest goalscorer with four this season, embraces.

"Personally I think that's why Mick brought me into the club in the first place because I'm that sort of player," he said.

"I always look forward to these sort of games and I think we are ready for this challenge.

"We've added a bit of experience to the squad and a bit of steel which is very important.

"We've stopping leaking goals which was a big thing for us because Wolves under Kenny Jackett has always been about keeping the goals against down to zeros and ones, and we've always got goals in the team.

"Hopefully we can get on the scoresheet a few times against Ipswich and keep a clean sheet."

Another man with Wolves connections in the Ipswich ranks is Christophe Berra, and Edwards is looking forward to playing against his ex-team mate.

Berra never scored for Wolves but has notched no fewer than 11 times since moving to Portman Road.

"He's done really well there and got himself back into the Scotland squad off the back of it," Edwards said.

"He's been really consistent in his performances but also managed to find the net a few times which I don't think I ever saw him do in a game or even in a training session at Wolves!" Edwards said.

"But you know what you get with Christophe - he's a very good, powerful defender and he's got a good left foot too so he'll definitely be up for it.

"He's the sort of personality who's up for every single game anyway.

"I'm delighted to see him doing well, but hopefully he won't be celebrating a clean sheet against us."
