David Edwards believes Wolves are a team in transition – but insists there is still hope of promotion this season.

Kenny Jackett's inconsistent team impressed when drawing 0-0 with Burnley on Saturday.

But it is points that Wolves need to climb the table as they currently find themselves nine behind sixth-placed Birmingham.

Edwards repeated the message that it is all about that elusive consistency for Wolves.

"It is a bit of a transition season for us as we lost (Bakary) Sako, who was a huge player, and then lost (Nouha) Dicko to injury.

"That is a lot of goals out the team we have lost, a lot of assists, and both are fans' favourites.

"There have been new players coming in and it is about finding the right formula and finding some consistency because in this league it is all about consistency.

"But there is still a lot of points to play for and we still have a chance.

"There are teams who have come from lower positions than ours to get promoted so we have to take some hope from that.

"Ultimately we need to put some results and performances together and not be good one week and poor the next.

"I think we have the ability in the changing room to do it and we've been playing together long enough now – I am sure it will turn for us."

Edwards is now on international duty with Wales and hoping to feature in Friday's home friendly against the Netherlands.

In a dream scenario Edwards would be promoted with Wolves – and then get in the Welsh squad for Euro 2016.

"It would be the perfect season," he said.

"First and foremost I want to do well for Wolves and hopefully be in the team, scoring goals and helping in a successful campaign.

"I know I have got to be in the team here and playing well to have a chance of being in the Welsh squad because they have some very good midfielders.

"I have been selected for this squad which is great – hopefully I can stay there and it will be exciting times next summer in France.

"In general over the last two seasons I have been playing a lot of games and that is big for me after missing a lot of football in my mid-20s with injury.

"I have been available for selection regularly and that is important for me.

"If I can get a run of games I am sure I can score goals and hopefully get up into double figures this year which is my aim.

"I am reasonably happy with my form but it's all about the team.

"More than anyone I hope people can see that I am a team player and it is the team that comes first."
