Goals from David Edwards and substitute Sheyi Ojo ended Wolves' recent run of consecutive defeats as they deservedly won 2-0 at St Andrew's.

Jackett's team produced a resolute defensive performance that saw high-flying Blues restricted to a solitary shot on target.

And the Wolves chief expressed his delight with his team's display, saying: "We restricted Birmingham to one shot on target and very few, if any, clear cut chances.

"Our attitude and endeavour was very good and something we have to replicate - we can't just say 'well done' today.

"We're delighted to win a local derby. It's a rare win here for us at what is a tough place to come. We want to replicate that."

Jackett felt the two goals, in the 12th and 84th minutes, came just at the right time for his side.

He was pleased with the performance of debutant Mike Williamson, who produced countless headers and clearances in a near-perfect debut.

He said: "With injuries at the back we're very thankful for Newcastle for letting him come out on loan for us.

"His talking and his organisation was exactly what we needed at this present time."

On the possibility of keeping Williamson, Jackett said: "We'll see, he's come out to play some games, we have several defenders injured.

"But both him and us are very pleased with the outcome today."

Substitute Ojo scored his third Wolves goal with another productive cameo from the bench.

Jackett hoped the on-loan Liverpool teenager could go on to match the impact made by fellow Reds youngsters Jordan Ibe at Derby County last season.

He said: "I'd love him to be of that standard. His starts so far have been so-so, but they've been against the top teams.

"He has some pace, some confidence on the ball and confidence in himself."

Jackett added: "Nathan Byrne did very well today and gave us something - he's new to the Championship and it's nice to see one or two lads coming through.

"Dominic Iorfa has gone out of the team and come back in he's always come back strong, and that's a lesson for me as well.

"Sometimes we just look a player or two away from a good team, there's times we've looked like that.

"Today our emphasis was on defending. There were open spaces for the second half for Benik Afobe, he had one good curling shot but the game didn't open up until the second-half for him.

"It wasn't our emphasis today, we needed to build from the back."

Wolves now travel to Bristol City on Tuesday before a home clash against Burnley at Molineux next Saturday and Jackett is aiming for six points.

He said: "You get mini periods in the Championship where there's nine points available in a short space of time. If you get a good return it can snowball."
