Wolves play down interest in 'Iraqi Pirlo'
Wolves have played down a link with a League One midfield starlet known as the 'Iraqi Pirlo.'
Swindon Town's Yaser Kasim is being chased by a host of clubs, including Brentford and Championship new-boys Milton Keynes Dons.
Technically-gifted Kasim, aged 24, has two years left on his contract and reports south of the Midlands suggested Wolves were preparing a bid for the £1million-rated Iraqi international.
Kasim fits into the mould of players Wolves have snapped up in recent years, being relatively young and with plenty of league experience under his belt.
However, although he is a player on Wolves' radar, a move is not in the pipeline at this time.
A classy deep-lying midfielder with an eye for a pass, Kasim was the anchor in a 3-5-2 system as Swindon reached the play-off final, losing 4-0 to Preston at Wembley.
Meanwhile, Northampton manager Chris Wilder has praised one-time Wolves target Ivan Toney despite the youngster being unsettled by a failed move to Molineux.
Wolves pulled out of a £500,000 deal to sign Toney because he failed a medical. Toney's formed then dipped and he ended the season with 11 goals.
Wilder said: "One minute he is going to a top Championship club, and he's on the ladder going forward, and then it doesn't happen.
"But he recovered from that and you have to give him credit for that.
"Ivan has had that experience now where there was a bit of speculation about him moving and he has got through that experience at the back end of the season. It is a difficult experience for a young player."
Elsewhere, former fans' favourite George Elokobi has left League One side Oldham Athletic. Elokobi departed Molineux last summer after six years at the club.
Now aged 29, the defender made 27 appearances for the Latics but has not signed fresh terms and is now a free agent. Season tickets for 2015-16 also go on general sale from 10am today.
Almost 12,000 renewed their seats under the 'early bird' scheme, up 14 per cent on a year earlier.
