Assombalonga was far too pricey for Wolves
Wolves boss Kenny Jackett admits Nottingham Forest's £5m striker Britt Assombalonga was too expensive to pursue.
Tomorrow's opponents Forest snapped up the powerful striker from Peterborough for £5million in the summer.
Wolves have failed to sign several forwards since May including Callum Wilson, Andy Delort, Patrick Bamford and Chris Wood.
Yannick Sagbo came and went in an unsuccessful loan move from Hull City.
Now Sunderland's Danny Graham has arrived on a temporary basis to try to provide the presence Wolves desperately need up front.
Head coach Jackett conceded Assombalonga, who scored 33 goals for Posh last season, was out of their price range.
Jackett said: "I don't think we considered taking him because of how high the finances were going to be."
Assombalonga has managed to transfer his goalscoring form into the Championship, having bagged 10 already this season, and Jackett expects him to keep it up.
He said: "He's done well already and he's got the power for this league and his goalscoring record has continued.
"He's done very well because he's transferred that goalscoring record from League Two to League One and now the Championship - which just shows he's been consistent.
"There's more to his game than goals – he's wholehearted, he's physically strong and him and Michail Antonio have got goals in them and have the power you need in this division."
Jackett is set to hand Graham an immediate debut from the start tomorrow, after training with his new team-mates all week.
The Wolves boss said: "He's under consideration to start, certainly. I've seen a lot of enthusiasm for him to play and I think that will come out tomorrow."
And the Molineux gaffer is convinced the 29-year-old will prove a hit in the Championship, adding: "He brings a goalscoring record which is hard to find.
"He brings know-how of the centre-forward position in this division. They're two big things we've been lacking.
"He's very clever, he's very good with his back to goal, he can roll people, he has a good touch and he certainly knows where the goal is.
"He's always been a threat. When he's right, he's a threat in front of goal and we've needed that."
