High prices may put clubs off Bakary Sako
Wolves boss Kenny Jackett believes the inflated transfer market may put Premier League bidders off Bakary Sako.
The five-goal top scorer is the subject of constant speculation as his contract expires at the end of the season.
Wolves will be hard pressed to maintain his £25,000-a-week wages unless they are promoted to the top flight.
But head coach Jackett reckons the huge spending before the summer transfer window shut, from Manchester United's £150 million splash to Championship side Fulham's £11m outlay on Ross McCormack, has inflated players' value.
"If you're looking at the market, it's accelerated unbelievably," said Jackett.
"The Premier League market has gone up with the likes of Manchester United and it certainly has for forward players.
"And there's also been some acceleration for forward players in the Championship since Fulham paid £11m for Ross McCormack."
Both Fulham and Nottingham Forest have bid for Sako in the last two years, while Leicester were linked with him in the summer.
Wolves won't offer Sako a new contract because of his current earnings and not knowing which division they will be in next season.
"We'll just keep assessing it as we get towards January," said Jackett.
"It's not something we're going to do right now, but anyone approaching the end of his contract will be discussed and it will be. Most importantly, the player is comfortable with where he is."
Jackett is unperturbed about the speculation surrounding his star asset.
"The speculation will continue," said the boss. "Both myself and him have been clear that, should a Premier League club come in, that's what he wants to do.
"But it hasn't come up to the level that's reasonable."
Meanwhile, Jackett is hopeful Sako will be available for the trip to Millwall in nine days' time after international duty for Mali.
"I think he'll play both internationals but it's a consideration," said the boss, who put the winger on the bench after the last international break."
