Roasting got Dave Edwards Wolves' winner

Wolves match-winner Dave Edwards today revealed he had previously roasted Rajiv van La Parra for not putting in the sort of cross that beat Norwich City.

Van La Parra whipped in the ball that was headed home by Edwards in the second-half, as Wolves won 1-0 at Molineux in front of the Sky Sports cameras.

The flying Dutchman was named Man of the Match on his competitive debut and formed an effective attacking unit with Bakary Sako and Nouha Dicko.

Edwards was the beneficiary as he broke the deadlock for what proved to be the clincher and he had no complaints about van La Parra's delivery.

He said: "I remember the first couple of games in pre-season having a go at Rajiv out wide, for taking it inside and having a shot rather than crossing.

"He certainly got that right and the cross made the goal, all I had to do is get some sort of touch and pace on it, with the area he's put it in.

"When you have got wingers like Rajiv and Bakary Sako, along with Nouha Dicko, playing at their best you will kill teams in this league.

"We looked good on the ball but, on the counter attack, we looked even better."

Edwards enjoyed yesterday's success as much as anyone, having spent six years at the club and now back in the Championship.

The 28-year-old is the club's longest-serving outfield player and has played in the Premier League, Championship and League One with Wolves.

It's fitting he played such a key part yesterday, with Norwich down to 10 men after Martin Olsson's red card.

He said: "Norwich reminded me a little bit of when we first came back down from the Premier League, we know what that feels like.

"I thought we showed a lot of intensity, especially in the first 10 to 15 minutes, we pressed really well and could have scored early on.

"When we were high up the pitch and didn't let them play out, I thought we looked the better team. The goal came at a critical time.

"The sending off was the right decision, it was a booking and he'd already a yellow card. It was just outside of the box, though, having seen the replay.

"We gave them too much space and that's when they looked like they were going to hurt us, but I told the lads if we can win enough second balls, we will catch teams out."
