Wolves delay call on loaning Liam McAlinden

Wolves boss Kenny Jackett will delay any decision to loan out young star Liam McAlinden.

A clutch of League One clubs are interested in taking the 20-year-old striker on a temporary basis.

But Jackett, who wants to sign another striker, is still weighing up what to do with the Cannock-born Ireland Under-21 international.

McAlinden was an unused substitute in Saturday's 1-0 win at Crewe when substitute Nouha Dicko scored the only goal, and is eager to get more action.

"There is some loan interest in Liam," said Jackett.

"Over maybe the last 18 months there has been interest and it will step up the closer we get to the season among the lower division clubs.

"And that's a good thing when people are phoning you about your young players.

"But I don't think anything will happen at the moment – he's part of my plans and he's got quicker and stronger from last season.

"We have to try to bring him on and he has to play, and he's a regular with us without having yet made that breakthrough.

"But I've been pleased with what he's done.

"We'll see what happens but at the moment he isn't going anywhere. We'll assess it as we go."

Bakary Sako missed the game after hurting his groin in the warm-up but should be fit for tomorrow's friendly at Oxford.

"Sako felt his groin in the warm-up so we pulled him out as we didn't want to take any chances," said Jackett.

"Hopefully he'll be OK this week with it settling down after a few days.

"He was 50-50 as to whether he could play and wasn't completely sure so we made the decision for him and decided not to take the risk."

Wolves were victims of an incorrect report at the weekend stating Crewe striker Marcus Pogba was withdrawn from the match against them on Saturday because he was set for talks with them.

"There's no news on anything," said Jackett. "We haven't got anybody coming in and there's nothing on any ins and outs - it's very quiet."

Eight players got 90 minutes at Gresty Road and Jackett is likely to play those who didn't get the full game at Crewe tomorrow.

They included unused substitutes Richard Stearman, Ethan Ebanks-Landell, Jack Price, McAlinden and subs Dicko and James Henry.
