Wolves appoint Scott Sellars and Rob Edwards
Wolves today added two former Premier League players to their coaching staff in their former defender Rob Edwards and Scott Sellars.
Edwards, still just 31 having retired from playing in October of last year, will coach the under-18 side, with Sellars bossing the under-21s.
The pair have been appointed as part of a coaching restructure at academy level, where they replace Steve Weaver and Mick Halsall.
Sheffield-born former winger Sellars, 48, scored 89 in 629 appearances – many in the Premier League - during a career including spells at Leeds, Newcastle, Blackburn and Bolton.
Having taken up coaching as his playing career ended, he was assistant manager at Chesterfield before joining Manchester City's academy, eventually heading up their entire structure.
He left City in April after what is said to have been a difference in footballing opinion with the current regime, led by director of football Txiki Begiristain.
Telford-born Edwards, 31, is well known to Wolves fans following his spell as a full-back or centre-half from 2004-08, where he made 100 league appearances.
Having started his career at Villa, he also played for Blackpool and Barnsley before retiring almost a year ago after loan spells with Fleetwood and Shrewsbury Town.
The former Wales international had already started his coaching qualifications, and has worked on a part-time basis with the academies at Manchester City and Wolves before returning to Molineux.
Director of football operations Kevin Thelwell said: "Following a restructure of the academy, we're delighted to have appointed Scott and Rob to the respective coaching positions.
"Scott will bring in a high level of expertise in youth development. During his time with Sheffield United, he brought through players such as Matt Lowton, Kyle Naughton and Kyle Walker.
"He also picked up some first-team experience in his role as assistant manager at Chesterfield and has been working at Manchester City for many years.
"Rob will be well known to Wolves fans as a former player and everyone will know what sort of character he is. He's a really good guy who's just starting his coaching career.
"But he has already proved, with his work here with our Under-15s and Under-16s, and at Manchester City, that he's going to be an outstanding coach.
"We see Rob as a big part of what we are going to do going forward."
Both Sellars and Edwards started work at Compton today, arriving with impressive pedigrees both as former players and now coaches.
