Wolves chasing two additions before pre-season

Wolves today targeted two new signings by the time the squad returns for the start of pre-season training on June 25.

It's understood the club is seeking to make three or four additions before the window closes at the end of August, with a left-back, centre-back, midfielder, left-sided player and a striker on the list.

Wolves have already been linked with a host of names including Callum Wilson, Harry Maguire, Jordan Spence, Jamie Husbands, Danny Ward and now out-of-contract Peterborough left-sided player Tommy Rowe.

Head of recruitment Stuart Webber believes it's realistic to have secured a couple of Jackett's targets by the time the players report back in just over a month's time.

"Hopefully, by the time of pre-season there will be a couple of new arrivals which would be the result of months of hard work," said Webber.

"Things can always change at the negotiation stage and other clubs may come in so there's a risk involved.

"But we have a list of players for each position so if we don't get number one, then there's number two, and that's a constant and ongoing conversation with Kevin (Thelwell, head of development) and Kenny.

"Hopefully we've now got to a stage where we're that well organised that, whatever the eventuality, we're ready."

Webber also said he wants Wolves to 'do a Norwich and Southampton' with the same core of players carrying them through two divisions to the Premier League.

He believes at least some of the same group of players assembled by Jackett – helped by the scouting work of Webber and his team – can be the bedrock of the team to carry them through two divisions in successive seasons.

Players such as Russell Martin, Wes Hoolahan and Grant Holt helped the Canaries march from the third tier to the top from 2009-11, while Kelvin Davis, Jose Fonte, Adam Lallana, Guilherme Do Prado and Rickie Lambert were part of the Saints squad who did the same from 2010-12.

"With all the young lads there's the potential to get better having been given a chance by Kenny," said Webber.

"You look back at Southampton and Norwich and players who went with them all the way through from League One to the Premier League.

"The aim is there for our young lads to do the same and really grow as part of the club.

"But the key for us as a department is to always be prepared for every eventuality."
