Determined Kenny Jackett today outlined his plans to raise Wolves' standards among staff and players.

A cloud of uncertainty hangs over coaches Steve Weaver and Mick Halsall after the club confirmed a process of restructuring had started among coaching personnel.

Jackett is anxious Wolves remain a step ahead on and off the pitch as they prepare for the Championship.

And, speaking before the shake-up among backroom staff broke, the head coach addressed the issue of maximising staffing and the Compton Park training facility.

"It's my job to improve the standards every which way we can – standards from the staff, making sure this place is kept up to date and we are one step ahead and making sure we don't stand still because if we do, everyone will go past us," said Jackett.

"So in every area of the squad, competition, hunger, organisation, direction to the staff – everything then must continue to improve."

Head of development Kevin Thelwell has already spoken to Under-21s coach Weaver and Under-18s coach Halsall about the restructuring.

It's understood a further meeting will take place with them this week.

As for the players, they return for the start of pre-season training on June 25 and Jackett revealed the workload will be similar to last summer.

"They know already they're coming back to work and at going up to the next level," said the boss.

"I don't think they'll see a big difference in terms of the programme I took for my pre-season here last year.

"The variation of the groups was different last year because of people coming in and out.

"Now the groups are more in line and from day one a lot easier and clearer.

"I'm sure we'll add to those 20 players somewhere along the line but only by relatively smaller numbers.

"They will go into the 11-a-side games we have which will be run on the same lines as they have in the last six months, for instance."

But he is aware Wolves must match much stiffer competition at Championship level.

"That's our target, it's not something we should be frightened of, but similarly, it's not something we can say will just happen," he added.

"We have to work at it right the way through the season and if there are three places going for the Premier League, we must make sure we're doing everything we can to get one of them."
