John Richards, who scored the winner against Manchester City in the final, has organised the reunion, at Shifnal Golf Club on Thursday, May 29.

Richards has linked up with his friend Dave Butler, currently the captain at Shifnal, to add a League Cup final theme to a competition featuring teams of four.

Phil Parkes, Geoff Palmer, Kenny Hibbitt – who scored the opening goal in the final - Steve Daley, Steve Kindon, Willie Carr and Richards are all due to attend the event.

"A couple of lads can't make it but we have asked others along and are waiting to hear back from Mike Bailey and Gerry Taylor," said Richards, who knows Butler from the 10 years he spent as patron of the New Cross Hospital Kidney Patients Association.

"We used to run an annual tournament at Patshull Park for the charity and he was delighted to be involved again now as he is a big Wolves fan and a season ticket holder.

"There will be other little competitions and possibly a quiz to keep the 74 theme going – he thought it was a cracking idea.

"We're hoping the presence of plenty of former Wolves players there will bring in another five or six teams."

The event is being held to raise money for the Severn Hospice charity in Telford.

Entry costs £260 for a team of four, with the choice of a former Wolves player on a first come, first served basis if required, and the tournament has a shotgun start at 1.30pm.

A bacon sandwich, with tea and coffee, plus a two-course dinner with coffee and mints, is also included.

Anyone interested should contact Dave Butler on 01952 691248.
