Wolves announce Ireland pre-season tour

Wolves today announced plans to return to Ireland on pre-season tour with two friendlies.

It will be the fourth time in the last five years Wolves have spent the summer on the Emerald Isle after they travelled there in 2010, 2011 and 2012.

Kenny Jackett's squad prepare to face Shamrock Rovers on Monday, July 14 (8pm) and Bohemians two days later (7.45pm) in a six-day stay from Sunday, July 13 to Friday, July 18.

Both teams will be involved in their Irish League season which should provide a couple of early competitive tests for the League One champions.

But rather than the luxury Carton House complex they have been based at in recent years to the west of Dublin, the squad will be based north of the city and will have use of the training complex at Malahide used by the Ireland national team, and last used by Wolves under Mick McCarthy in 2007.

"Going to Ireland is something we know having done it on several occasions previously and is something we know works," said head of football development Kevin Thelwell.

"Kenny and Joe have also been before during their time at Millwall and are very comfortable with it in terms of the facilities and the games.

"Both fixtures will be strong and competitive because the two teams are in their league season and that will be really good for our preparation.

"We're all really pleased with the pre-season schedule and just need to confirm one or two things before being able to announce the rest of the friendlies."

Wolves have already confirmed two warm-up games in England, at Cheltenham on Friday, July 11 and Crewe on Saturday, July 26.

A home friendly at Molineux will be announced in due course.
