Richard Stearman targets Wolves stay

Richard Stearman today declared he would be more than happy to pledge the best years of his career to Wolves.

Wolves' Richard Stearman has just passed the 200 league appearance mark for the club.

The 26-year-old is one of two senior players out of contract this summer with Dave Edwards.

Serious talks have yet to start with the duo but head coach Kenny Jackett has given the pair a ringing endorsement and wants them to assume the role of leaders in the dressing room next season.

Stearman is set to attract interest from elsewhere in the Championship but would like to stay at Wolves.

"If something can agreed then nothing would please be more than to be here for 'x' amount of years," said Stearman.

"I'm waiting now to see how things go, we'll have to see what happens.

"I've always loved my time here, this season especially, it's been great for myself personally.

"Last year I thought my time may have been up here, but luckily the gaffer wanted me here and stuck with me and hopefully I've rewarded him for that.

"I've thoroughly enjoyed being one of the more experienced players in the dressing room this season.

"It's another string to my bow to take on that more senior role and I think I've thrived on it and the boys have responded to my role in a positive way – I've loved every minute of it.

"This is right up there for me in my career – hopefully I'll see more in a Wolves shirt as well."

Stearman, who is just short of 200 games for Wolves after joining for around £1.6m six years ago, is seeking to build on a second promotion with the club and arguably his finest season to date.

"It was a very special end to the season," he said.

"I feel very lucky to have experienced it not once, but twice, and with such a great club as well.

"You have to savour these days as some players aren't fortunate enough to enjoy one, let alone two.

"I'm very proud to have played a part in a great achievement."
