Kenny Jackett: Wolves could have had 10 players in Team of the Year
Kenny Jackett today claimed Wolves could have had up to 10 players in the PFA League One XI – and their multiple recognition means they're ready for the Championship.
Head coach Jackett reckons centre-back Richard Stearman, left-back Scott Golbourne and wingers James Henry and Michael Jacobs could have joined Carl Ikeme, Sam Ricketts, Danny Batth, Kevin McDonald and Bakary Sako in the team of the year.
"If you didn't know which five had got in, it wouldn't be easy to just name five because there are people outside those five that would have good cases to be in it because they've played very well this season," said Jackett.
"For us it's a great reflection of us this season to get five in there, it really is.
"Those lads deserve it and there are others who are perhaps disappointed they didn't get in.
"Maybe Scott Golbourne and Richard Stearman, and maybe Michael Jacobs and James Henry if they'd have come earlier – it's those type of things really that are good from our point of view because there are others who could have got into it.
"It's terrific for the players and it's good for the club."
Jackett believes the success of the players in League One will give them confidence to maintain their form in the Championship.
"The Championship is a great challenge and we shouldn't be overawed by it," he said.
"It's something we should look forward to and each new season in football there's a different scenario.
"And us going into a new league, we should go into it with plenty of confidence off the back of this season.
"We hope some foundations have been put down that will help the club going forwards."
Meanwhile, striker Leon Clarke is set to be available for Saturday's curtain call against Carlisle.
Clarke missed the 1-1 draw away to Coventry last weekend after suffering a groin injury in training on Friday but has rejoined training.
"He's moving well and has a good chance for being fit for Saturday, but George Elokobi (hamstring) probably not.
"Both are outside and moving well but I don't think George will make it and at the moment Clarke will."
