Holidays on hold as Kenny Jackett draws up Wolves' transfer wishlist
Wolves boss Kenny Jackett today declared he has drawn up his Championship wishlist and won't be hitting the beaches next week.
Head coach Jackett is expected to move for several targets with Coventry hotshot Callum Wilson, versatile Rochdale forward Scott Hogan and possibly West Ham centre-back Jordan Spence in his sights among others after Saturday's final game of the season at home to Carlisle.
Jackett insists there will be a "dripfeed" of signings rather than the wholesale changes of last summer.
But he is ready to take the plunge in the transfer market to strengthen his squad for another promotion assault.
"We haven't got anyone who's going to sign next week but we're aware of targets," said the boss.
"I don't think we've got a timeframe on it necessarily, but after Saturday, we won't just be dropping our bags and forgetting about it for two months.
"It will be a consistent dripfeed of players added, whether it be from the youth ranks or from outside.
"If our planning is good all the way along, our ambitions won't be to tear the thing up and go in a different direction like last summer.
"It will be a summer of adding quality to hopefully the foundations of a good squad.
"I'd also like to think we'll have improved standards of fitness and discipline, a style of play, a variation of formation into an overall style of play that can stand us in good stead, should we aspire to get into the higher echelons of the pyramid."
Jackett also pledged to reshape the academy and the development teams after Wolves released seven untried youngsters from their Under-21s squad yesterday.
"If we can keep working away and trying to improve right the way through the Under-21s, Under-18s and really do as much work as we can to line those groups up so there's balance in them, that will stand us in good stead," he said.
And while he has identified players he wants to sign, the current squad have been aware of their responsibilities for coming back in the best condition for pre-season.
"All of them have a programme and have been told individually what's expected and what standard they need to be when they come back on June 25 and where we want to go," said Jackett.
"We want to hit the ground running when we come back.
"So we'll be working away at those things and the background work will bear us through next season."
