Wolves are ready for the Championship hunt insists Kenny Jackett

Kenny Jackett today vowed Wolves will be hungrier going into the Championship than they were two years ago.

Head coach Jackett has led Wolves back to the second tier at the first attempt after two relegations which plunged the club into turmoil.

Only now – four managers on - has stability returned and Jackett is confident his rebuilt squad will make a better fist of it than when Stale Solbakken was appointed to lead the club back to the Premier League after they suffered the top-flight drop in 2012.

"I certainly think Wolves are going into the Championship a lot more positive frame of mind, and a lot hungrier, than when they went into it two years ago," said Jackett.

"It won't be a lack of investment, or a lack of desire to try to get there - we'll just come from a different way.

"I'd suggest Wolves won't let that momentum slip by not investing and bringing players in."

Jackett believes Wolves will continue to invest in hungry 'under the radar' players.

"I don't think they'll be players on big salaries out of the Premier League, they'll be people who are up for making their name and wanting the challenge," he said.

"It's happened before. I've been through Mick McCarthy's promotion-winning side of 2009 and there weren't many there that had great names or fantastic Premier League histories.

"It was a group just hungry to make their name and work their way up. That will be our aim."

The three relegated Premier League clubs as well as last year's trio Reading, QPR and Wigan will all receive £16m in parachute money, while Wolves' payments halve to £8m for next season.

But Jackett is confident Wolves will compete with those clubs.

"Parachute money can give you a big advantage and you may have a great teamsheet, but you may have a negative feel, and sometimes you don't get great performances," he said.

"We hope we can get this club as streamlined as possible and move on those that aren't necessarily part of it.

"It's a credit to the board and Steve Morgan they haven't let that group (outgoing loans) hamper us.

"From being the absolute focal point of the whole club it's become less as the season went on.

"It will be a sideshow or a small part of it."
