Wolves' Zeli Ismail extends Burton Albion loan
Zeli Ismail will stay Burton Albion for the rest of the season with a challenge from Wolves boss Kenny Jackett to gatecrash the Molineux first team.
The 20-year-old winger has wowed Brewers fans in his initial one-month stay at the Pirelli Stadium, scoring a superb winner in the League Two clash at Morecambe on Saturday for his first goal in senior football.
Burton boss Gary Rowett said: "He's had a huge effect. He's set three goals up in four games so far and scored one to win a game."
Now Jackett is happy to let Ismail stay longer to learn his trade.
"He's made a big impact for them," said Jackett.
"I'm looking for him to hold down a starting place at Burton from now to the end of the season - that's his challenge.
"I'm very aware of him and his ability. In terms of his progress, this is the right move and, in the long run, if we have a patient approach with the right players, Wolves will reap the benefit.
"A lot of young players need first-team games before you judge them and I'd put Zeli in that category.
"Although he's done very well in our youth team and under-21s, he hasn't got a lot of first-team experience.
"That's why we want him to get that experience. And if he does come on strong – which is possible with his ability level – Wolves will benefit.
"He's a very talented player – he's two-footed and can cross or shoot with both feet and he's now looking for the consistency to turn him into a League player.
"He needs to get the games, gain the experience and for us to keep watching him in first-team football."
Wolves' Under-21s Premier League Cup quarter-final at home to Reading will take place on Thursday, February 20 (7pm) with a semi-final against Arsenal at stake for the winners.
Last night's Under-21s game at home to Norwich was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch at Telford.
