Kenny Jackett: Wolves still on course for promotion

Kenny Jackett today insisted Wolves remain in a good position despite losing ground in the race for automatic promotion.

As Wolves reflected on the sad loss of goalkeeping great Bert Williams at the weekend, Jackett's side fell four points behind second-placed Brentford, who drew 1-1 at Walsall, while leaders Leyton Orient are a point further clear after winning 2-1 at Crewe.

Wolves' game at Crawley was postponed on Friday afternoon because of a waterlogged pitch. Crawley chief executive Martin Dunford said the match might not be re-arranged until March or April.

But head coach Jackett insisted Wolves are looking well placed for a strong push in the last 20 games.

"With 20 games left, we're in a good position; we're not in the top two which is something we want to be," he said.

"But we're within touching distance. If we get the equation right on the field, we can continue our progress and get where we want to be, which is back in the Championship at the first attempt.

"We're not far away; we've been in and competed in every game this season.

"But I'm also aware the points total for the top two is going to be very high so we're going to have to keep that foot on the accelerator."

Jackett was in the stands as Rochdale beat Plymouth on Saturday with striker Scott Hogan believed to be a Wolves target.
