Danny Batth signs new Wolves contract
Wolves today vowed to build a team around Danny Batth after the hugely-popular defender finally signed his new contract and he declared: "This is home".
The 23-year-old has penned a three-and-a-half year deal to keep him at Molineux until at least 2017.
The news finally ends any doubts on the centre-back's future as he entered the final six months of his current deal.
Brierley Hill-born Batth, who has been at Molineux since the age of 11, is Wolves' only ever-present in League One this season after emerging as one of the cornerstones of their promotion bid.
Head coach Kenny Jackett branded Batth the best defender in League One and said: "On his performances and his attitude so far this season he's somebody that, going forward, we can now build things around.
"Danny signing a new contract is excellent news for us.
"Sometimes an internal one is as good as any from the outside and that's the situation in this case."
Batth revealed his delight at signing his new contract– and backed the club to climb back up the ladder over the next few years.
Negotiations have been lengthy, but the 23-year-old was always keen to stay.
"I'm delighted to have signed a new contract," said Batth.
"I've been with Wolves since I was 11 so I know the club really well and I think it's important for players to come through the academy and is hopefully a sign of things to come.
"This is a place I can call home.
"It's a family club and it feels like it's all getting back to what the club is all about with the work being done at the top by Steve Morgan, Jez Moxey and Richard Skirrow.
"It's probably taken up until this season to really establish myself in the team.
"Kenny has done a great job and improved me as a player."
Batth believes Wolves under Jackett are building "something special" and thanked the fans for their support.
"I think the club is now building something and hopefully we can go on to achieve something special.
"I want to thank all the fans who have been fantastic in their support of me so far.
"I know it's taken a while but hopefully the fans will continue to support me but more importantly the whole team for the rest of the season."
