Wolves still want to keep hold of Kaspars Gorkss
Wolves boss Dean Saunders wants to keep big-earning defender Kaspars Gorkss at Molineux – even if the club are relegated.
The 31-year-old is on loan from Reading until the end of the season. But if Wolves stay up, the Latvia national team captain will earn a two-year permanent deal on a whopping £25,000-a-week.
Despite the poor results which have left the club needing a footballing miracle to stay up, Saunders has been impressed with the former Blackpool and Queens Park Rangers stopper.
And, ideally, he wants the experienced defender with him next season, albeit on revised terms.
Saunders said: "I haven't had a chat with him yet – he's better than that level (League One) – and, hopefully, it doesn't come to it.
"He'll have his fingers crossed more than anybody that we can do something because he likes it here.
"We've just got to win this game and then we'll have a chat next week."
Meanwhile, Saunders believes Wolves wouldn't be facing the drop if they had a fully-fit goalscorer.
He said: "I'm quite sure if Sylvan Ebanks-Blake had been playing in that game against Burnley, he would have made a difference for us."
