Wolves set to wait until January for Frimpong

Wolves could wait until January until they take Emmanuel Frimpong on loan – despite the Arsenal midfielder reportedly turning down a loan move to Ipswich.

It emerged this afternoon that the Molineux club are unconvinced that the 20-year-old midfielder is ready to be thrust immediately into Championship action, leaving Wolves pondering whether to keep their powder dry until the January transfer window.

With Wayne Hennessey's freshly-ruptured cruciate knee ligament fresh in their mind and Frimpong having suffered an identical injury in February while on loan at Wolves, the club want to be sure the Ghana-born player is fully fit before committing themselves.

Frimpong has played 80 minutes over two Capital One Cup games since suffering his injury for Wolves at QPR on February 4.

Sources in the capital say Wolves are favourites to land the player after confirming Frimpong's tweets on Monday that Arsenal are ready to let him go out again this week.

And Frimpong has reportedly told friends he won't be joining Ipswich, fuelling speculation that he is set to pitch up at Molineux, although it is understood there is other Championship interest as well.

Former Wolves boss Mick McCarthy has spoken to Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger about taking the midfielder he brought to Molineux in January.

But after snapping up Blackburn right-back Bradley Orr on loan this week, he is up to his quota of five temporary home-based signings allowed to play at the same time.

Meanwhile, Bjorn Sigurdarson today insisted he is ready to deliver on his potential for Wolves as he pleaded for more game-time.

Still only 20, the £2.4m summer signing from Lillestrom had his best outing yet as a 57th-minute substitute in the 3-3 draw against Brighton on Saturday.

Sigurdarson has so far scored once in 11 Championship games, but only two of those have been starts.

"I'm really enjoying it now and getting into a shape I've never been in before," said the striker. "I think it's only going to go forwards from now on."
