Wolves were today closing in on a swoop for £1m-rated Real Sociedad central defender Vadim Demidov.
Sources say the two clubs have agreed a fee for the 25-year-old, and although Wolves confirmed their interest in the 15-capped Norway international, they say they haven't reached agreement yet.
Eintracht Frankfurt are said to be the other team in the bidding for the former Rosenborg stopper, who has also been linked with a return to the Trondheim club where he won back-to-back titles in Norway in 2009 and 2010.
But Demidov, who has been known to Solbakken since the defender was in his late teens, has been a name under consideration for some time by the new Wolves boss.
Solbakken watched him alongside his former FC Copenhagen defender Brede Hangeland in Oslo in the friendly against England in May, when Roy Hodgson kicked off his Three Lions reign with a 1-0 win.
And negotiations should go smoothly, with Latvia-born Demidov, who has a year left on his contract, being surplus to requirements at Sociedad.
He has slipped to third choice in the pecking order after appearing to have become a victim of a political row at the Spanish club over claims that they wanted to recruit more Basque signings.
Demidov also wants to be closer to his girlfriend, the Norway international hurdler Christina Vukicevic.
Described as a ball-playing centre-back, 6ft 1ins tall Demidov used to be a defensive midfielder and is said to be a strong presence.
A fluent English speaker, Demidov mastered Spanish in a matter of weeks to enable him to organise the defence at Sociedad.
A 1m euros signing for the San Sebastien club in 2010 following 86 games in three years at Rosenborg, Demidov played 23 matches in La Liga last season after 13 the year before.
Bjorn Bergmann Sigurdarson was due to complete his move to Wolves today after undergoing a medical at Compton.
