Wolves defender George Elokobi admitted he had never heard of new manager Stale Solbakken and urged club chiefs to keep Terry Connor involved in the first-team set-up.

Former Cologne boss Solbakken will be unveiled as the new Wolves boss on Monday after he signed a contract at Molineux and will commence work on July 1.

Although the Norwegian is well known on the continent for his achievements with FC Copenhagen, who he managed to the last-16 of the Champions League in the 2006-07 season, Elokobi revealed his surprise at the 44-year-old's appointment.

And the Cameroon left-back believes one of Solbakken's first steps as manager should be to ensure Connor remains part of his backroom staff.

"Had I heard of him? Not really, I don't know much about him. I've just read about him on the internet but as players we will all get behind the new coach," said Elokobi.

"It's brilliant for everyone that the club have got someone now and it's also very important that Terry Connor stays with us because he is an important part of the club and has been fantastic with the players.

"Hopefully he will be able to lead us back to the Premier League and the fans will get behind the new manager. We are looking forward to working with him when he arrives.

"I don't think it is a concern that his (Solbakken) only experience of English football is as a player because I have read he has a lot of coaching experience so it will not be a problem."

Solbakken has a solid managerial pedigree although his copybook was blotted last month when he was sacked by Cologne.

One of Solbakken's first challenges will be to hold on to the likes of top scorer Steven Fletcher, fellow striker Kevin Doyle and England winger Matt Jarvis.

The players were informed of the appointment in a meeting with chief executive Jez Moxey at the club's Compton training ground earlier today and captain Roger Johnson admitted Solbakken's name was not one familiar to him.

Johnson said: "I don't know who the guy is to be honest. It is out of the blue. We'll see what happens."

Defender Ronald Zubar shared the views of the Wolves skipper and added: "Seriously, I don't know who he is but I will know today for sure."
