Karl Henry today revealed the root of the latest Joey Barton rumpus as the Wolves midfielder accused the team of "going soft."

Saturday's 3-0 defeat to Queens Park Rangers has been overshadowed by Barton's comments accusing Henry of "trying to hurt people" for his unpunished tackle near the end.

Barton also branded the Molineux man a "Sunday League player" in a tweet.

Henry was angered by Barton's winding-up of players, saying: "Joey Barton was telling everyone on the pitch he is on £80,000 a week.

"That is him. I think he riles a few people when he says those things and tells everybody how great he is. It is just embarrassing really. If that is what he wants to do, he can carry on.

"But that is why a lot of people dislike him as a person and maybe have a problem with him. He's on £10,000 a week more than last season, he tells me.

"They were winning and there was no need for him to go on the way he did and telling everyone how much he earns.

"Every time I've played against him he tells me how much he earns and I don't think anyone wants to hear it."

Henry believes Wolves need to get back to being ugly, after their woeful display against Rangers made it two defeats in a row.

He said: "We want to play football but we have to remember why we stayed in this league for two years – we're not going to go through the season playing like Brazil.

"So far we've played better football than last season but there are also times when we've got to make it ugly and we didn't do that on Saturday.

"We must battle hard and look strong and look a big, tough team as well as play well."
