Tony Pulis plotting West Brom training ground expansion

Tony Pulis has persuaded Albion chairman John Williams to expand the training ground and overhaul it in his image over the next 18 months.

There will be a makeover inside the training ground this summer that will cost roughly £250,000 and an expansion to the front and rear of the Walsall building that will require planning permission is planned for 2018.

Pulis is keen to give more breathing space to the sport science and medical departments to help analyse and treat his players.

The Welshman is contracted until the end of next season but Williams is planning to offer him a new deal after the summer transfer window.

Now in his third year at the Baggies, Pulis wants to put together a long-term plan in order to help develop all aspects of the club.

"I was talking to John Williams about certain things at the training ground we need to improve in order to put a better team on the pitch next year," he said.

"We've spoken about lots of things, and we had a good walk around the training ground on Saturday.

"There are certain things that I think we can put in place that will improve the future of this football club.

"Maybe not in the present, but in the future and we need to do that, we need to look all the way along the line."

As well as improving the training ground, Albion are planning to continue their aesthetic developments at The Hawthorns too.

Last summer they added murals to the East Stand and flags to the car park, and now they are looking at improving signage from The Hawthorns rail station to the stadium.

"Season ticket holders tend to know where they are going but away fans and match-by-match purchasers have to be pointed," said chief executive Martin Goodman.

Pulis says the money garnered from the club's continued survival in the top tier was crucial to these developments.

"We have an opportunity and a chance to do things like that, not just on the pitch but off the pitch as well," he said. "But we have to be in the Premier League otherwise we won't be able to do it."

Albion have sold out their away allocation of just under 2,500 for the trip to Burnley on Saturday, May 6. The club are offering free coach travel for the game.
