Southampton captain Jose Fonte set to snub West Brom in favour of West Ham
Wantaway Southampton captain Jose Fonte is expected to reject a move to Albion in favour of joining West Ham.
The Baggies had agreed a deal with Saints for the 33-year-old centre-back, who handed in a transfer request at the start of the month.
But Fonte is now nearing a deal with the Hammers, and is in advanced talks with Slaven Bilic's club.
Albion are eager to bolster their ageing back-line as they search for replacements for 33-year-old Jonas Olsson, who is likely to leave in the summer, and 37-year-old Gareth McAuley, who has played every single minute so far this season.
Although Fonte is the same age as Olsson, the Baggies hoped to get a couple of years out of the highly-rated Saints defender, but it appears he has chosen West Ham instead.
