West Brom transfer news: Craig Gardner set for Birmingham City medical
Craig Gardner is due to undergo a medical at Blues as the midfielder edges toward an exit from Albion.
The Baggies were approached by their West Midlands rivals over a potential deal last week and Gardner, who played for Blues between 2010 and 2011, is now set for a return to St Andrews, following a breakthrough in negotiations on Tuesday night.
Though the exact details are not yet known, it appears likely the 30-year-old will join Blues in an initial loan deal, with a view to a permanent switch in the summer. The move could be confirmed as early as Wednesday afternoon.
Gardner has made 85 appearances for the Baggies since joining from Sunderland in 2014, though he has featured on just ten occasions this season and was an unused substitute in Saturday's 2-1 FA Cup defeat to Derby.
The Hall Green-born midfielder grew up a Blues supporter and was part of the team which won the 2011 League Cup, leaving for Sunderland following the club's relegation from the Premier League later that year.
