West Brom decide not to sign trialist Momo Sissoko

Both free agents have been training with the Baggies in recent weeks following a trial against Indian Super League team Delhi Dynamos at The Hawthorns during the international break.

But Sissoko, who also played 90 minutes for James Shan's under-23 side earlier this month, has not been offered a contract over fears he would be unable to keep up with the pace of the Premier League.

"It's difficult in these situations," said assistant head coach Dave Kemp. "If they came in at the beginning of pre-season they'd be at the same level as everybody else. You're judging them when they're two months behind the others.

"Fitness-wise they're off it, let's be truthful, they haven't done the pre-season our players have done."

The Baggies have also decided they don't need the 31-year-old, who used to play for Valencia, Liverpool, Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain, following the emergence of 18-year-old midfielder Sam Field.

"Sam's got all the tools to become a very good player," said head coach Tony Pulis. "He's got wonderful touches. He's got great energy as well."

On top of that, James Morrison is now fully recovered from his hamstring injury and Chris Brunt, who is still a few weeks away from first team action, can also play centrally if required.

Although Nacer Chadli was playing slightly further forward, the record signing impressed in the number 10 role against West Ham, leaving Pulis with more options in central midfield than he previously had.

However, the club are yet to make decision on Chamakh, who is still training with the team this week.

Albion only have three senior strikers at the moment – Salomon Rondon, Saido Berahino, and Hal Robson-Kanu.

Chamakh played under Tony Pulis at Crystal Palace, and Albion's head coach has been singing the Moroccan's praises in recent weeks.

But he wants to make sure the 32-year-old is up to speed before offering him any sort of short-term deal.

"Chamakh has got real quality in that 10 position and he can score goals but we will see," said Pulis.

"It would be lovely to think that in a month's time he could be at the level he was at Palace.

"If he was at that level he would certainly be pushing people to play.

"Chamakh's scoring record is very good. He can pick a pass and play off people and around people."

The Baggies decided to take a look at the free agents after struggling in the summer transfer window.
