DEAL: West Brom sign Matt Phillips for £5m from QPR on four-year deal
West Brom have completed their first signing of the summer after buying long-term target Matt Phillips from Queens Park Rangers for £5m.
The 25-year-old has been officially unveiled by the club today after completing his medical and agreeing personal terms yesterday.
He has signed a four-year deal with the Baggies, and will replace Stephane Sessegnon on the right wing.
Head Coach Tony Pulis said: "We're really pleased to have Matty on board. This is a great chance for him to show everyone he belongs in the top-flight of English football."
Technical Director Nick Hammond said: "I think it's fair to say Matt has been on the radar for a period of time and we're very pleased to have finally got his signature.
"He's a great acquisition because he adds to the versatility within the group. He gives us both wide positions and is also able to play as a central striker.
"We're absolutely delighted to welcome Matt to the club."
The speedy wide-man has been a target for head coach Tony Pulis for the past 18 months.
Rangers wanted £10m for Phillips last summer, but dropped their asking price this time around for several reasons.
Phillips only had one-year left on his contract at QPR and the club wanted to off-load his £25,000-a-week salary.
They would have also had to give former club Blackpool a slice of any fee over £5m.
Albion returned to QPR this summer with a £3.5m opening bid plus add-ons making it up to £4m in total.
But Rangers rejected that initial offer before the two clubs agreed a £5m fee.
