West Brom deny receiving 'club record' bid from Watford for Saido Berahino

West Brom have denied receiving any formal offers for striker Saido Berahino as Watford insist they have lodged a 'club-record' bid for the 22-year-old.

Sky Sports are reporting that three Premier League clubs, including champions Leicester City, have also enquired about the striker this week, and they claim Watford have formalised their interest with a bid.

But Albion say they have received no formal offers for the former England Under-21 international from anyone yet this summer.

Watford have been linked with Berahino in the past, while Leicester are reportedly eyeing him up as a replacement for Arsenal-bound Jamie Vardy.

The Hornets' official club record for a transfer is the £6.6m spent on Etienne Capoue although more is believed to have been spent on Abdoulaye Doucouré, who was bought in January and then loaned out to Granada.

Last summer, Tottenham had four bids for Berahino turned down by Baggies chairman Jeremy Peace but Spurs are closing in on AZ Alkmaar striker Vincent Janssen and it appears their interest has cooled.

Newcastle made two bids in the region of £20m in January but Peace refused to sell any of his players to relegation rivals during that window.

Even though Berahino – who has 12 months left on his contract - scored just four Premier League goals last season, the Baggies are expecting to field bids for the striker this summer.

But the club hasn't received any as of yet.
