The big Nigerian feels fitter than he ever has before, and expects to shake off his injury in time for Saturday's game against Stoke.

He was a shock inclusion in Tony Pulis's Albion starting XI yesterday as Pulis punished Saido Berahino for an unknown behind-the-scenes incident.

"Whether I stay here or whether I go on somewhere else, I thought I did myself justice," said Anichebe.

"Honestly it's the best I've felt for a couple of years.

"I got a good pre-season behind me with the gaffer and then I pushed on fitness-wise.

"Unfortunately I haven't really played that much. Even though it's been such a difficult time, we've worked together and we've stayed tight the group of us.

"Hopefully I've taken a good step."

Anichebe limped off three minutes before the end to a standing ovation, but it seems his injury may not be as bad as initially feared.

"I don't know if it was cramp or if I pulled it," said the 27-year-old forward.

"It didn't feel as bad as before, even though my reaction, it looked like I was snipered. Hopefully it's not too bad."
