But the match will be remembered for the two red cards referee Mike Dean showed to Tony Pulis' team.

In the first half James McClean was given a straight red for a petulant retaliatory lunge at Bournemouth right-back Adam Smith.

Then Salomon Rondon was sent off in injury time for headbutting Dan Gosling.

It was Smith who gave Bournemouth the lead in the 52nd minute, cutting inside off the right hand side and firing in with his left foot.

When Gareth McAuley headed in an equaliser from a corner with 11 minutes to go it looked like Albion had rescued a point.

But then Darren Fletcher wrestled Gosling to the floor in the 87th minute and Dean - who was booed off at full-time - pointed to the spot even though contact started outside the box.
