After seeing Kaylee Sweeney's family trying to raise money for the bike on Facebook the Irish international stepped in and offered to pay the full £1,500 himself.

That was back in September, but now the makers of the bike have handed it over to Kaylee, a young girl from Derry who suffers from Spina Bifida.

Paediatric equipment specialists, John Preston, posted a photo of Kaylee on their website alongside the words: "We were delighted to hand over another Trike designed for children with special needs in Northern Ireland yesterday, and Kaylee was very happy as you can clearly see by her photograph!

"Her family had received amazing support from her local community in Derry including an incredibly generous donation from West Brom Premier League star James McClean.

"With the current mild weather Kaylee can get out to play and this particular model allows Kaylee to use her arms to power her trike while providing movement in her legs.

"This will make such a difference to Kaylee's day to day life."

McClean, who was brought up in Derry and played for Derry City before joining Sunderland, was called a "class act" by family member William Sweeney.
