Boss Tony Pulis has revealed his West Brom squad held clear-the-air talks with Saido Berahino after his controversial deadline day threat to strike.

The 22-year-old forward caused uproar at the Hawthorns after tweeting that he would never play under chairman Jeremy Peace after the collapse of a move to Tottenham.

But, after making a substitute appearance last week against Southampton, Pulis has rallied his troops in a group meeting

He said: "There was a meeting with Saido and all the players and they've had free rein. It's not as if I've stopped them talking to him or pulled him to one side and put him in the corner.

"Saido pops in every so often and I have got a naughty chair that I put him in.Everyone was there and it wasn't a meeting just about Saido. It was a meeting with the players when Saido got mentioned."

Pulis added that he would not mind having more players in his squad with the talent and ambition of the England forward.

He said: "It was just on the basis that he's a very young, talented lad who is ambitious and everybody in the room should have that ambition.

"It would be lovely if there were six or seven others in the dressing room who are of his quality with that ambition.

"It was the just the way he handled it, but if you're asking me whether I would like to have more in the dressing room with the quality, I'd love to have more."

Re-integrating the Burundi-born hitman in with the squad has not been a problem to any of Berahino's team-mates.

Pulis said: "The players have been fantastic. They've been very good with him and I would expect nothing less because Saido is a good lad.

"He's not been disruptive in the way that he has been during windows and I think that's the big difference."

Pulis will decide in the next couple of days whether to hand a deal to former West Ham forward Ricardo Vaz Te, who has been on trial at Albion for the last week.

The head coach said: "We'd like to bring him in. We've got 21 professionals in our group with 19 outfield players and there's room to bring a couple in.

"But obviously he has to prove himself and we have to make sure that it's right for us.

"I spoke to Big Sam (Allardyce) and he told me he did really well there for him, initially. He dropped off as the seasons went on, but he seems a nice lad and he's worked hard."
