The Baggies boss sent out a clear message to the Loftus Road hierarchy that Hawthorns officials will not be held to ransom over Matt Phillips, Charlie Austin and Steven Caulker.

Albion have held extensive talks in a bid to broker a deal for winger Phillips with an initial offer worth around £5m rejected, with Rangers valuing the former Blackpool man at £10m.

Pulis has also entered talks over Austin, who is rated as a £15m striker by QPR, while they have enquired about centre-back Caulker.

Speaking for the first time about the QPR players during an exclusive interview with the Express & Star at the team's pre-season camp in Florida, Pulis said: "We fancy Phillips.

"We fancy a couple of players at QPR but we've got to make sure if we're signing these players they are value for money.

"At the moment the market out there has gone crazy and you have to buy into things but you have to be sensible as well.

"We're not Manchester City, who will go out and pay £49m for a player and that's the end of it. We can't do that, we have to have a list of players and if people are unrealistic and ask to much, we have to move on and find people who are realistic and people who want to play for this club."

Pulis's men play the first of their three friendlies in the United States when they take on Orlando City SC in the Citrus Bowl.

Striker Saido Berahino is set to be rested despite resuming full training following his summer knee injury.
