The Baggies have increased adult season ticket rates by £50, returning prices to 2011-12 levels following a price cut in 2012 and a subsequent freeze.

Chief executive Mark Jenkins added the increase had been forced by "competitive realities," but insisted the decision had been taken with "great reluctance."

Pensioners' prices will rise by £40 and students and Under-21s by £30, while juniors' prices have been frozen. All price rises and subject to the Baggies remaining in the Premier League for next term.

Jenkins said: "We have fought hard since 2012 to recognise the economic challenges our supporters face and freeze prices accordingly.

"As the last national survey a year ago confirmed, only six clubs in the top two divisions could boast a lower average price than ours.

"Even with these rises, I expect the cost of football at the Hawthorns to remain one of the cheapest in the Premier League.

"So this is a decision taken with great reluctance. However, we have to acknowledge the competitive realities of staying in the Premier League.

"Of all the Premier League clubs, we commit the highest percentage (75.5 per cent) of our revenue to salaries, the bulk of which is to fund a squad to challenge at the top level.

"That comes from one of the smallest turnovers in the top flight.

"We recognise we have had a couple of difficult seasons during which we have not made the progress we wanted.

"But we are absolutely determined to improve and progress under Tony Pulis."

Albion have also reintroduced concessionary rates in some parts of the West Stand, following pressure from fans.

Jenkins said: "I know this has been a contentious issue for some supporters.

"The case has been pressed throughout the formation and early meetings of the Albion Assembly and we felt this was the right time to respond where possible."
