Saido Berahino's West Brom future in doubt

The club's top scorer spoke of moving "on to bigger things" but teports the 21-year-old has been transfer-listed are premature.

However, the issue is likely to be revisited in the summer following the striker's latest mis-step.

At the very least, Berahino is likely to be fined for the interview, which was conducted without permission from the club.

In it, the Burundi-born frontman claimed supporters would let him leave with their blessing in the summer if he scores the goals to keep the club in the Premier League.

He said: "I'm taking care of my short-term goals right now and if I keep scoring goals and doing well for West Brom, I know the future will be bright for me and I'll go a long way.

"I need to stay focused on what I'm doing right now, which is scoring the goals and keeping West Brom in the Premier League.

"If I can keep them up and score as many goals as I can, I'm pretty sure the fans wouldn't mind me pushing on and moving on to bigger things."

His comments came little more than a fortnight after chairman Jeremy Peace went on record to praise the 14-goal striker for his resurgence, after a difficult period when he lost form and was convicted of drink driving.

There were also suggestions the club were willing to re-open talks over a new contract, which had originally been put on ice because of concerns over the player's lifestyle.

All that is now in question after this week's interview, which has caused club officials further frustration with his conduct.

Berahino has been linked with moves to Liverpool and Tottenham, though Albion did not receive any bids during the transfer window.
