West Brom striker Saido Berahino is set to play against Arsenal on Saturday despite a club investigation into his arrest on suspicion of drink driving.

Berahino will be in the squad to face the Gunners but head coach Alan Irvine today confirmed the club have launched an internal investigation into his arrest in the early hours of October 22.

And Irvine confirmed he did not know about the incident until Monday.

The 21-year-old, whose seven goals so far in the Premier League this season earned him an England call-up earlier this month, is due to be questioned by Cheshire Police in early December.

Irvine said today: "Saido didn't train on Tuesday, having only done recovery on Monday after the Chelsea game.

"He trained today and trained really well. I'm certainly perfectly happy with the way he went about things today.

"He's done really well for us this season. Everyone's been giving him praise and rightly so."

Irvine added: "I can't talk about anything that's away from the football side.

"I got a call on Monday and was told about it (the arrest). The phone call was a shock, but then of course we don't know all the circumstances or the details of the investigation.

"Until that is completed I can't actually make any kind of decision one way or another.

"I haven't spoken to him about the investigation because I don't think that is anything to do with me. I have spoken to him about the football side of things.

"He's trained really well this morning. The club are looking at everything that's going on."

And Irvine insisted he did not feel disappointed to learn of the incident with police a month after it happened.

"I'm not necessarily feeling that he should have come to me, I don't really know exactly what the circumstances are and until the investigation is concluded I probably won't," he said.

"I've just got to deal with the football side."
