West Brom will replace new kit after one season

Albion's controversial break with tradition for next season's kit design will be for one year only.

The club, which has faced an angry backlash from supporters riled by reports of a "pinstripe" design for the 2014-15 campaign, have already ordered their colours for 2015-16.

And the club will then be reverting to a more traditional blue and white stripe d look with suppliers Adidas. Discontent with the rumoured design for next season has gathered such momentum fans have even launched a Facebook campaign against the idea.

And in an online E&S poll in which more than 4,500 votes were registered, 70 per cent were against the radical change the new kit is expected to represent.

Speculation on the social networks have portrayed the new kit as abandoning the traditional thick blue and white stripe that has been Albion's trademark down through the years.

The club concede next season's kit is a departure from usual but insist there has been no accurate depiction of its true design on the Internet so far.

The decision to take a break from the familiar stripes was taken 15 months ago when the new deal with the famed German kit suppliers was clinched and Albion's hierarchy opted to "go for something different."

It's been more than 20 years since Albion last tried a re-design with the "barcode" kit which featured in the early 1990s.

But the club hope to pacify rising fan anger by assuring supporters the more usual blue and white stripe will be back for 2015-16.

That order has already been placed with Adidas and the design is more in keeping with the club's traditions.

The kit controversy has been one more difficult issue for the Baggies to cope with after a struggling Premier League campaign dogged by difficulties.

But Albion are gearing up for a summer overhaul which will gather pace later today when the club confirms its retained list for next season.

Already confirmed is the departure of full back Billy Jones, who has rejected overtures for new and improved terms at The Hawthorns.

The full back is already rumoured to have been offered a deal by freshly-promoted Leicester City.

But Graham Dorrans's late burst of form under the now departed Pepe Mel has been enough for Albion to take up the club's one year option on the Scottish international midfielder.

Dorrans had been over-looked for much of the season but was brought in from the cold by Mel for the final nine games of the season to play an important role in their survival battle.

But the list is expected to confirm the departures of stalwarts Zoltan Gera and Steven Reid – and set the scene for a major recruitment drive this summer.
