West Brom eye Terry Burton to assist Richard Garlick

Albion are lining up Roy Hodgson's former No.2 Terry Burton to return to The Hawthorns alongside sporting and technical director Richard Garlick.

The Baggies are considering restructuring their football leadership after a dismal season that has seen them narrowly avoid relegation just a year after finishing eighth in the Premier League.

And they have sounded out Burton about a return to the club to help Garlick, who has endured a torrid first full season as Dan Ashworth's successor. It is not yet clear exactly what role Burton would take if the Baggies firm up their interest, but it is understood Garlick's position at the club is not under immediate threat. He could, however, hand over some responsibilities to Burton, who spent three months with the Baggies as Hodgson's right-hand man between December 2011 and March 2012. The 61-year-old recently left Arsenal following a second spell with the Gunners' academy.

His background gives him the breadth of knowhow Albion are looking for to help Garlick after his lack of senior football experience was questioned.

Burton's appointment would, however, lead to inevitable rumours about a reunion with Dave Jones, who he assisted at both Cardiff and Sheffield Wednesday.
