The Rams are keen to open talks with the Baggies in the coming weeks about keeping the 21-year-old, who has impressed in his nine games since moving to Pride Park.

The Albion academy graduate has helped Steve McClaren's side reach the play-offs and could still play a part in promotion to the Premier League.

Thorne has hinted he would consider an extended stay in the East Midlands and Derby coach Paul Simpson has admitted McClaren is keen to keep Thorne and fellow loanees Andre Wisdom, of Liverpool, and Patrick Bamford, of Chelsea.

"We know what we want, it is a case of seeing what the parent clubs want to do with their players," said Simpson.

"These are all discussions that we need to have over the coming weeks.

"I think the players have shown they can fit into our group, fit into Derby County."

Thorne has struggled to earn regular first-team football with Albion but impressed for a spell last season before picking up a cruciate knee ligament injury.

It is unlikely the Baggies would sell Thorne but they could consider another loan for the midfielder.
