Ben Foster calls for focus as West Brom 'within touching distance' of survival
Goalkeeper Ben Foster today called for no let-up from Albion despite admitting that they are "within touching distance" of Premier League survival.
The Baggies could be safe by Sunday if results go their way after Saturday's 1-0 win against West Ham took them to 36 points.
They ended the weekend three places clear of the Premier League drop zone but Foster insisted: "We're definitely not safe now.
"It's close and we're within touching distance but we can't relax now and put our feet up. We've still got three games left and we still want to get three, four, maybe six points.
"There are a few winnable games in there and that's what we have to aim for. Another win would probably guarantee it mathematically. One win and we will be sweet."
Cardiff's defeat at Sunderland yesterday means the bottom-placed Bluebirds can no-longer catch Albion.
That means, regardless of their own result at Arsenal on Sunday, they will be confirmed as safe if Fulham fail to win at Stoke on Saturday and Norwich lose at Chelsea immediately after the Baggies' game. Victory at Arsenal would guarantee their safety irrespective of other results.
"Everyone is buzzing and it's relief more than anything," said Foster.
Saido Berahino's 11th-minute strike secured a 1-0 win against the Hammers.
"Everyone is happy with the three points but the relief overall is telling on everyone's faces.
"This win probably gets us within touching distance of safety but we're not safe yet, it's as simple as that.
"We need to crack on. We've got Arsenal, Sunderland away and then Stoke at home and I'd like to think we'll get four to six points from them, so hopefully it will be a strong finish."
Former Baggies striker Shane Long's late equaliser for Hull at Fulham moved Albion closer to safety and Foster admitted he might text thanks to his ex-team-mate.
"I might do," he said. "But we can't get too mixed up with other teams, we've got to deal with our own results, but we're glad some of the results went our way.
"Some of the results we've had at home recently made for an even edgier ending when you think of some of the late goals we've conceded, like Cardiff and Tottenham.
"So it was important we held on for that clean sheet. If we had conceded in the last minute it would have been an absolute dagger through the heart but we held on for a fantastic win and a great three points."
