Billy Jones: West Brom gifted Man City points
Defender Billy Jones today admitted Albion's dismal start cost them the chance of victory at Manchester City.
The Baggies trailed 2-0 after 10 minutes at the Etihad Stadium last night and, despite fighting back through a superb Graham Dorrans goal, they eventually lost 3-1 to leave themselves just three points above the relegation zone.
Jones, who made his first appearance for two months after a hamstring injury, said: "In recent games we have started well and that was the plan again but it was poor from us and we were really disappointed.
"We obviously wanted to get something because Sunderland did well there and we were confident we could do the same. But it was a really poor start and if you give them a 2-0 lead it is always going to be a long night.
"We were positive and wanted to keep a good shape and attack from there.
"We got some good balls into the box and maybe on another night we would have got another goal and put them right under the cosh but it wasn't to be.
"We knew that when we went 2-0 down people might have been expecting the floodgates to open. So we were pleased we stayed solid."
Dorrans' strike was the highlight of the night for Pepe Mel's men and Jones said: "It was a fantastic goal. I'm pleased for Dozza because he's scored a couple since he's been back in the team. He works hard to get in the box and he causes problems by doing that and can get goals. Hopefully he can carry that on for the rest of the season."
