West Brom call for Nicolas Anelka resolution

Albion are looking for a quick decision from the FA on Nicolas Anelka's possible ban as they face the prospect of losing two strikers in a week.

The Baggies sold Shane Long to Hull yesterday and could lose Anelka to suspension in the next few days if the authorities punish the Frenchman for his controversial 'quenelle' goal celebration.

The FA announced there would be no decision on possible charges until Monday at the earliest, meaning Albion could lose a second forward for a spell right at the end of the transfer window.

Sporting and technical director Richard Garlick said: "That could be a possible turn of events, but we've got a strong squad.

"We've got a number of strikers, including Saido Berahino, so we're well-stocked in the striking department.

"Our investigation is ongoing and so is the FA's investigation. While they are ongoing we won't make any comment. It would help everyone for that investigation to be over as soon as possible."

Critics in France say Anelka's celebration, during the 3-3 draw at West Ham on December 28, was anti-Semitic but he insists it was a show of support for his friend, controversial comedian Dieudonne.
