Shane Long was edging closer to a possible Albion exit this afternoon as the Baggies and Hull continued talks over the Ireland international.

Neither club would confirm lunchtime reports that a fee had been agreed but a deal appeared to be close after Hull returned to the negotiating table on Friday.

The Tigers want to add Long's signature to their £6.5m capture of Everton frontman Nikica Jelavic, which was expected to be confirmed this afternoon.

And the Humberside club were hoping to agree a fee with Albion soon after discussing a deal worth up to £6m including several add-on clauses.

They would then begin work on persuading the 26-year-old to move to the KC Stadium after both he and his wife, Kayleah, confirmed the family are reluctant to leave the Midlands with daughter Teigan at school and a second child due later this year.

Long, who almost moved in September before the Baggies pulled the plug on the deal late on transfer deadline day, admitted at the weekend that he would have to consider his future if the Baggies agreed to sell him.
